Advice or support for community service workers assisting tenants.
Due to the withdrawal of funding by Consumer Affairs Victoria, the Tenants Union of Victoria (TUV) will be closing its drop-in and after-hours advice services effective from Monday, 3 July 2017.
Tenants seeking advice will still be able to contact TUV through our Tenants Help Line by calling 03 9416 2577between the hours of 9:00am and 4:00pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays). Demand is high, and we apologise for any difficulty accessing this service.
Contact can also be made by submitting an enquiry via our website: www.tuv.org.au
From Monday, 3 July, individuals requiring in-person assistance will need to contact their local tenancy service.
From Monday, 3 July, community services and other organisations can receive advice to assist their clients by calling 03 9411 1444 between the hours of 10:00am and 12:30pm or 1:30pm and 4:00pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).
“Tenants Union of Victoria remains committed to assisting as many of Victoria’s over 1.2 million renters as possible, and providing them with a public voice in support of making renting fair,” says CEO, Mark O’Brien.
TUV’s drop-in service has assisted thousands of Victorian renters since it first opened its doors in the mid-1970s.
“The decision to close our drop-in and after hours advice services was not taken lightly,” says O’Brien. “It was simply unsustainable for us to maintain these services in the wake of reduced resources from the State Government. It was ultimately decided that in order to maximise the number of renters TUV can assist, we should dedicate our remaining funding to other services.”
TUV will also continue to encourage those tenants who have the resources to access the low-fee option for tenancy advice through the Tenancy Legal Referral Service.
